47,000 Applicants Jostle for 1,000 Govt Teaching Jobs in Delta

Forty seven thousand (47,000) applications have been received for the on going first phase recruitment exercise of one thousand (1000) teachers into public secondary schools in Delta State.
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary education, Chiedu Ebie Esq. who disclosed this at a press briefing, at Asaba, yesterday, (20/3/2019), said the number of applications hit forty seven thousand on Tuesday.
While responding to a question on the current recruitment exercise, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary education said ” for this first phase we are recruiting one thousand teachers in the sciences, English language and Mathematics as well”.
Continuing, Ebie explained that ” at the end of the we should have been able to recruit between three thousand to five thousand teachers “.
He however noted that the State Government is conscious of its effort to continue paying salaries as and when due viz a viz the available State revenue, adding that the new minimum wage that is being considered will an additional burden on the State.
