Rural Health Care: Matron Bemoans Filty Environment of Primary Health Center

By Austine Enunwa
The Matron in charge of the Issele Uku Primary Health Care Centre in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mrs Mercy Enunwah has bemoaned the filthy environment of the centre.
Mrs Enunwah, who assumed duty at the centre recently, stated that the environment was not healthy for Health care delivery.
She remarked that healthcare delivery must be carried out in a decent and cleaner atmosphere to promote patients comfort and recovery.
The health officer posited that she was not comfortable with the situation she met on ground at the centre.
She revealed this while playing host to newsmen in her office also expressed sadness that the centre, which supposed to be the rallying point in the locality as the headquarters, could not be a referral centre.
The matron disclosed that the health centre needed a watch man to control the trespassers in the premises at day time and night.
She explained that the centre was in dire need of health personnel, saying that the only one nurse and midwife presently were not enough to cater for the many patients that streamed to the centre daily for medical attention.
The matron, however, appealed to the state governor to include the local government health workers to benefit from the subsidy removal palliative as rolled out recently saying that local government health workers were also essential service providers.
