Sapele Schools Prepare For Resumption Amid High Cost of Books

Public and Private Schools in Sapele Prepares for Resumption for the 2023/2024 academic calendar on Monday 11 September as parents cry over high cost of books.

In most schools visited, teachers were seen getting set their notes of lesson as well as other teaching aids, cleaners and gardeners were seen keeping the environment clear and ready for study as parents  of students queue to get note and text books for their wards.

At Bookrush School, Ugbeyiyi, the story was the same.

Speaking with some parents, Mrs. Gbugbemi Temisan, a parent said it is a good thing that the school was ready with textbooks for parents to buy before Resumption as this will make the students ready for studies right from the first day of Resumption, however, she decried the high cost of text book,

He noted that she has spent over N400, 000 getting only books for Just Three of her ward, and she still have to pay for Tuition.

The Proprietor of a private School interviewed that pleaded not to be mentioned, said the schools are not the cause of the increase in textbooks, that they get supply from producers and only add a little as their service charge.

Mr. Clement Urhobo, a producer of one of the English textbooks equally attributed the high cost of books to increase in cost of materials as a result of removal of fuel subsidy when accosted.

Mrs Betty Ehis, Proprietress of Treasureland Schools told newsmen when visited that her school is fully prepared to welcome back both New and old pupils and students for learning come Monday 11 September and that teaching will commence immediately on the first day of Resumption.

She advised that parents and students should not remain at home thinking there will be days of Grace before teaching commences.

Schools visited were, Gana Mixed Secondary School, Ufuoma Secondary school, Ethiope Mixed Secondary school, Treasureland Schools, Okotie- Eboh Grammar school, Our Saviour Schools, International Primary and Secondary school, Bookrush School, Ebenezer Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools and others.
