“Delta Government Stooped too Low to Order Arrest of Man in Viral Video of flooded road”

A human Right Activist, Mr Zik Gbemre has condemned the arrest of an unidentified man who recently used TikTok to highlight the deplorable state of Shell Road in Sapele local government area of Delta State.

In a post titled “THAT INCITING ARREST IN SAPELE” on his Facebook page, Mr Gbemre insinuated that the man was arrested on the order of Governor Sherrif Oborevwori .

Parts of the post reads “the man didn’t commit any offence. The man didn’t fabricate lies against the Delta government led by Oborevwori. What oppression? If it is true that the plain clothes men were police then it means the Delta State Police Command are being used by politicians to intimidate and harass citizens.

“As far as Delta State Police Command and Delta State Government didn’t deny the online video it means the police is believed to have arrested the man on the order of Governor Oborevwori and Sapele Council Chairman for bathing in a pool of stagnant water in the centre of a Sapele street road in Delta.

 “The man who bathed on the road as seen in the video didn’t carry any dangerous weapon. He merely bathed in the centre of the road to express his grievance against the Delta State government and Sapele local government administration.

“The security operatives including police should concentrate efforts in fighting crime like rampant kidnapping, robbery, illegal bunkering and other violent crimes in Delta state.”

Meanwhile the Director General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr (Barr) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe came to the defense of government, saying that the man is suicidal.

His words , “the trending video of a young man bathing in dirty road water is distasteful and should not be encouraged by any right thinking individual.

“Bathing in contaminated water can cause certain health problems including; skin irritation caused by contact with small larvae called cercarias, eye, ear and throat infections, among others. This is not the right way or strategy to attract government attention.

“Government is investing heavily on quality healthcare for our people, and it is very unfair for one of our brothers to bath in dirty road water without considering the possible health hazards. He must never do that again.”

“His subsequent arrest”, Latimore went on, “was never at the instance of the State governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori. The law enforcement agents may have interpreted the actions of the young man to mean suicide attempt which is against the Law.”
