NGO Decries High Rate of Consumer Rights Abuse

The Mazik Foundation for Consumer Rights, a non-governmental organization focused on consumer rights advocacy, has expressed concern over the high rate of consumer rights abuse in Delta State.
Speaking on the occasion of the 2025 World Consumer Rights Day, Executive Director Zik Igbadi Boniwe emphasized the need for collective action to address this issue.
Mr. Igbadi described the Mazik Foundation as a movement dedicated to empowering consumers with knowledge of their rights and the means to seek redress.
He noted that consumer rights have become a neglected aspect of human rights in Nigeria, emphasizing that protecting these rights is essential for humanity.
He disclosed that the Mazik Foundation is working with the Delta State House of Assembly to domesticate the Federal Competition Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) in Delta State, Which will be called Delta State Competition Consumer Protection Commission which aims to set regulatory and legal framework in place to protect consumer rights abuses.
Chief Nat Igbadi, Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on infrastructure, supported the Mazik Foundation’s objectives, highlighting the importance of protecting consumers from substandard products and services.
The Foundation’s Project Manager, Mr. Kefe Kingsley, explained that the organization uses reconciliation, mediation, and peacebuilding to promote consumer fidelity in Nigeria.
According to our Correspondent, the event received goodwill messages from various organizations, including the National Human Rights Commission and the Public Complaint Commission.
The theme of the 2025 World Consumer Rights Day, “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyle,” underscores the importance of promoting sustainable consumption practices and protecting consumer rights.
