The Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, has officially appointed Dr. Paul Bebenimibo as its new Registrar, a move widely celebrated as a major step toward bolstering the university’s administrative and academic profile.

Dr. Bebenimibo’s appointment was confirmed during the institution’s 21st Governing Council meeting, following a rigorous and merit-based selection process.

The announcement has since drawn commendation from key stakeholders across the Niger Delta and beyond, including the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF), which hailed the appointment as both strategic and well-deserved.

In a congratulatory message jointly signed by DOPF Chairman, Emmanuel Enebeli, and Secretary, Shedrack Onitsha, the forum described Dr. Bebenimibo as a “progressive and visionary leader” whose career trajectory reflects a rare blend of academic brilliance and administrative competence.

“Your appointment is a testament to your exemplary leadership and unmatched commitment to academic excellence,” the statement read. “Your years of distinguished service as Head of the Department of Broadcasting, Journalism and Media Studies at Delta State University, Abraka, and your previous role at DESOPADEC, have clearly marked you out as a forward-thinking professional.”

Dr. Bebenimibo brings a wealth of experience to the position, having built a solid reputation as an academic and administrator.

His background in communication and public service is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening NMU’s operations and expanding its reach within Nigeria’s maritime education sector.

The DOPF expressed optimism that under Dr. Bebenimibo’s stewardship, the university will experience greater growth, enhanced institutional credibility, and improved global visibility.

“We are confident that your wealth of experience, dedication, and integrity will serve as a driving force for innovation and progress at NMU,” the forum noted.

Dr. Bebenimibo’s appointment comes at a time when NMU is poised to expand its academic offerings and infrastructural development, with high expectations for improved student outcomes, research output, and strategic industry partnerships.

With this new chapter, the university community and stakeholders alike anticipate a reinvigorated administrative approach that aligns with the evolving demands of maritime education and global best practices.
